Palo Alto Language Studio specializes in tutoring and consulting for K-12 students, graduate students, postdocs, and professionals in English and Spanish language skills.
Our Story
Palo Alto Language Studio grew out of a passion for language and helping people connect with one another. Over years of language and linguistics study, it became clear to us that the way the majority of approaches were teaching language was less effective than it could be. We set out to change that.
Our Mission
We want to empower you in learning, using, and becoming confident in a language you’re just starting to learn, or one you’ve been speaking for years. We aim to support you in being more comfortable speaking, understanding, reading, and writing, and help you to apply your learnings to grow in the ways that matter most to you.
Our Team
Tony Velasquez
Linguist-in-Chief, PhD Candidate
Tony has always been mesmerized by languages, from the variety of sounds they employ to the cultures that come to be attached to them. After studying several languages in high school, he went on to study linguistics for an undergraduate degree, his master’s at the University of Oxford, and now as a PhD Candidate at Stanford University.
Along the way, he’s also taught English and Spanish to adults, worked at an elementary school as a family and community liaison, and taught linguistics to college students. He’s passionate about bringing the world of academic linguistics and the world of language learning together, where he sees an important space where the two can inform each other to great success.
